What is your retail strategy...
can you make it happen?

There is an approach we like to take when suggesting answers to the above question. It’s a bit like planning a road trip...you have to ask yourself some questions: “Where are you now, where do you want to be, and which route do you want to take to get there”.

The process essentially needs to begin by taking steps to identify what changes need to be made to your business in order for it to be ready to move forward. These steps can be identified from questions such as:

  • Are you currently maximising profit margins?
  • What is happening in your marketplace?
  • Are your staff well trained and competent?
  • How are you currently measuring performance?
  • What are your business goals, and are they clear?

Once these and numerous other questions are answered, you can develop an action plan and timescale to get you from where you are now to where you want to be.

Your action plan should assist you to:

  • Develop an appropriate business structure
  • Implement new processes and procedures
  • Acquire new skills and resources and utilise existing ones

One thing is for sure, and this is a phrase I labour often:

Failing to plan is planning to fail!
